I have a Carter AFB on my '76 F250 w/460. It's a 625 cfm and I had to rejet it and change the rods to pass California smog. I did manage to figure it out though. I have 70/57 rods and .095 primary jets. It had .100 jets and 70/47 rods and was too rich and would not pass smog. Metering rods on an Edelbrock are easy, jets are easy too but the air horn has to come off to get to them.
You can buy wideband AF meters from many places. Personally I think they are the best answer to tuning your carb using the info in the Edelbrock installation manual on jets etc.
