I'd like to start of by appologizing if this particular problem has been addressed in a prior thread. I don't have alot of time to search, especially with all the hundreds of pages dealing with 'brakes' and 'squeeks'.
My 97 squeeks terribly, only when in reverse, I'm being told it's brakes by my buddys. If it is the brake ( drivers side by the way) can someone tell me how to get the freakin drum off?
Still no replies? I did search and found similar posts with this problem...with no replies either.
It rained the other day, and now that squeek is gone. Anyone have any ideas?
If you have let the linings go it can be quite the task to remove the drum. If you can remove the small rubber access cover under the axle and make the adjuster back off enough that the linings will slide under the drum as you remove it. Spray wd-40 or a similiar lubricant on the studs so that the drum breaks free. You may have to use force. Use enough force and you'll have to replace the drum.
This thread had some good info on how to remove the drum: drum removal
It may have quit squeaking because of the moisture. Are you sure it's not a u-joint?

Dan, Thank you
I'm not positive where this noise is originating from. I had new brakes put on 2 yrs ago. Just thought I'd start there and hope to find something obvious causing the squeek. As far as the 'U'-joint goes, I'm not sure how to determine if it's the culprit or not.
Again, thanks
anymore help would be appreciated.
