As you all know, I was having some tranny problems. It was slipping in OD and caused high temps. Well, I bought a boat three days ago. Nothing big, weighs about 8500 lbs on trailer. I was on the way home stopped for fuel, and knew the tranny wa sacting up, line pressue was at about 70lb, and the od light was blinking. I looked under the truck , and it was POURING out, (tranny fluid). I waited about an hour for it to cool, added some and continued home. It was slipping, and I was on the way to ohio from PA, and I wasnt in a good mood, so the next long hill I saw, I mashed it to the floor and kept it there for a LONG time. the tranny got REALLY hot. but no fluid. I checked the level and it was where i was suppsed to be. I did that again, and by the time that I got home, the error code wouldnt come bak. It hasnt slipped yet, and I just hauled three skid loaders to the shop on my gooseneck at 70 mph. So ummmmmm, the question is, WHAT HAPPENED? did it get hot enough to rough the clutches up so they start gripping again? I thought it was the t/c since it really only slipped in OD. I am lost, but am glad that it seemed to have worked its way out. Next week I wil have enough saved for a new tranny if need be, but heck, now it performs just like it did 80,000 miles ago. I was so ticked off on the way home that trip, that me and my girlfriend actually let it cool off in a FORD dealership while I was looking at a couple 02 and 03 powerstrokes. Did my OBS get jealous and decide that perhaps she had pushed me too far?? I will leave that up to you guys to decide. All I know is I like driving it better than the 02 I have now..........
when it does this does your speedo go crazy?
i would drive this tranny till it takes a crap then buy a new tranny. or wait till you know exactly whats wrong with it.
Mitch
no speedo stays the same. Now heres the kicker. I just pulled a back hoe 70 some odd miles down I 71 here in ohio, up some pretty good grades, Ill admit it wasnt the heaviest of things, tranny said 195 degrees, but never slipped. I know how to fix this truck, I swear you say your gonna sell it, wait 10 hours and drive. Whateers wrong is fixed.............
Seriously though, I called the tranny shop and they said the same thing you did. Drive it till it pukes, cause we cant diagnose anything like that....
