I just bought some paint to do touch-ups on my '72 F100. The colors are Tempico Yellow and Sequoia Brown Metalic. The guy warned me that the color on my truck would have faded over 30 years so the new paint wouldn't match exactly...and it doesn't. My question is; can the new paint be faded out or lightned by adding...say...white or am I just inviting disaster? Has anyone done this?
Good paint stores can computer color match. Hence, if you can take in a small trim piece or part, they should be able to run the computer program and come up with a good match.
If the areas are small, take some rubbing compound to the new stuff after its been cured for a while, then buff it up to blend with the old stuff.
Of course,
There is also the Bodywork forum to help out.

Yeah, I might be OK. The area that I'm repainting is the part below the wide chrome molding at the bottom. It's only about 1 1/2" wide and it is separated from the rest of the body by the chrome molding so you never actually see the new paint up against the old paint. I'll try rubbing it out as you suggest.
