Well today I graduated (WOOO GO ME) from highschool so after the ceremony we went to go eat. Well I have an aftermarket radio so I took it off and put it in its case and proceeded to get out of my truck. Well when we get out of the restraunt I go for my keys and they are not in my pocket. So I look in my truck and it turns out they are in the ignition and THE TRUCK IS RUNNING!!!! I felt so dumb. I have never locked my keys in my truck. I guess I was too worried about my radio and forgot to take my keys, I didnt hear the beeping sound when I opened my door.......No idea what I was thinking.
But what suprised me was how good my truck was running when the tow truck guys unlocked it. It wasnt idling (sp???) rough or anything, but I guess it helps that I changed my oil yesterday. But still this is a tough little truck. This should be part of a Ford truck advertisement or something. Its the 2.3l 4 banger by the way.
Hey dont feel bad or beat yourself up over it im sure it has happend to alot of people, not me but im sure there are some out there. HAHA just joking around...JPC
Your awfully young to be having "senior moments"!!!!!! LOL
I did this once, when I got out to listen to the engine idle & unload the truck, then did my usual lock the door routine!!!!
I was so tightly focused on listening to the engine & it was so quiet, I didn't realise what I'd just done, until I went back to shut er down & realised I'd locked myself out, with it still running!!!!!
Wife was gone, so I couldn't use her keys, didn't have a cell phone, nor a spare key, so it had to idle for about 45 min, until she returned.
NOW I carry a spare key in my wallet, like I've always done, for all my other rides.
Just a thought for all who read this & think you have enough presents of mind that this couldn't happen to you!!!!!
Be prepaired, have that spare key in your wallet.
You can have one made for about $1 at Wallmart or the like, or if you have a PATS system, order a spare key off "E Bay" & have a Locksmith grind it & carry it in your wallet or hide it sealed up on the vehicle.
Anyway, have a spare key made & make it accessable, so when your "senior moment" catches up with you, you are prepared!!!! LOL

Haha, yeah I have alot of "senior moments". I tell my girlfriend if my memory is this bad now I will hate to see it when im really old.
But when I bought the truck I only got one key and never thought to make another.....But im on my way to walmart right now to get one made
Just the other day, I was at my friend's house cutting a few stumps in his backyard, and his step-sister locked her keys in her car. The spare key was- you guessed it- in the car. Turns out the day before, she had also locked her keys in it, and then when she got in, just threw them into the console and forgot to bring them back into the house. We got her in, and refused to let her leave the driveway before she put the spare key into the house.
If you have a sliding rear window its a snap to get in. Bend a piece of wire, like coat hanger wire, in to a squared corner Z (90 deg angles) and each "end" perpindicular to each other. Push it bettween the window rubber, bend down which will push the window lock back and your in. Ive had to do it three times now.
Thanks Zack for letting me know where your spare key is, I was looking for a ranger just like yours ha ha !!! We've all done that little trick I bet, I haven't done it with the motor running, I would have to shoot it to save gas at 3 bucks a gallon ha ha !
This reminds me of when I did this at work once. all I was able to say when it happened was, oh ---- I just screwed up. cant count how many times my cousin locked himself out of his car either, and I had the spare.
Random thing I found today, two Ford keys, both appear fairly well used, in my mom's glovebox. She drives a Chevy Silverado. My dad drives a GMC Sierra. And they don't fit my truck. No idea what they are...they don't even match.
That being said, I saw gas today for *gasp* 2.49! Wish my tank was lower...

Well I dont have a sliding window and I dont have power locks, so you have to pull the door handle to unlock the door. So it would be kinda hard to do this with a coat hanger even if I had a sliding window.
