Roller cammed and fuel Injected?

I'm running a flat tappet Rv cam and 2v carb in my 84 302. Would I get better mileage with a roller cam (same specs more lift) and going to fuel inj? I'm sure I would but how long would it take to make up the money for the retrofit? What kind of mileage should I expect with a 302 roller cammed and injected in a 5000lbs Bronco with 3.5 gears and 30 inch tires with a C6 auto?Thanx guys.

The main difference with the roller cam is less valvetrain friction, cam specs being about equal. The cost of retrofitting to roller cam on a non-roller block is around 500 bucks for parts, and possibly about the same to switch to EFI if you do a lot of scrounging for parts. You should pick up a few MPGs, but it would take a while to make up the difference in gas savings.

The mileage question might be better asked in the big Bronco forum, but possibly someone here would have an answer. I'm guessing 13-15...?!

Yes, both better mileage and/or more power. You might try looking for a complete 5.0 HO/SEFI engine, 86 through 95. The stock engine is a pretty nice assembly. I have one in my 86 Mustang GT.

A roller cam/EFI system would be ideal, but the fact that you have a C-6 (no overdrive) could be large part of why your milage isn't all that great at higher speeds.

Thanx guys! I went to the coast yesterday, about a 200 mile round trip, and avg about 13.5 mpg. I think I can still tweak the timing a little and I've been thinking of getting a set of roads lifters. I've heard that they can help pick up a fe more Mpg.Thanx guys.
