After lossing power, rough idle, and stalling on interstate, Ford did a TSB 06-09-07 Baloon test. Left bank showed signs of combustion gases eating fuel system. They replaced all 4 fuel injectors on left bank. There was 50 psi at fuel regulator, fuel pump, and rear of left cylinder head before doing the test. Any ideas why this happened? Could it happen to the right bank? Thanks.
there is a copper washer on the end of each injector that keeps combustion gasses from entering the fuel rail. This washer will at times disintegrate. You could also have damage with the stainless steel sleeve that the injector sits in. When dealing with this problem, the tech needs to inspect these parts to insure that it doesn't happen again. One can only hope you had a good tech. I have seen this happen when the injectors had been replaced previously, and not been torqued properly with the right tool.
I maintain and own a fleet of ambulances. We added a new E450 right before Katrina. The unit is now 9 months old and has 42,000 miles on it. Original brakes. The negatives that we have experienced was a very rough warm up and low power around 38,000 miles. Before that we bloew one of the AC lines due to a factory flaw which puts the high pressure line too close to air intake and rubs a hle in the line. Real pain to drop the compressor and chnage the line. Even bigger pain to chnage the belt.
The truck just came back from the dealership after being their three weeks. They changed injectors 2,3,4 and now she's purring again. The mechanic asked me to please not bring it back as it almost killed him pulling the valve covers. I'm a little ticked as I instructed him to change the belts and tensioners as we normally change them every 45,000 miles. He said they looked good so he left them.
My primary complaint on this unit is the access to the front of the engine. The shroud makes it almost completely inaccessible. Once we reach the end of the 100,000 mile warranty I will probably remove the shroud and mechanical fan and install a flex-a-lite electric fan set up. This will provide a lot of clearance and as we spend a lot of time idling, it will help with cooling as well.
I have been told that the 2007 model year will be increasing the price of diesels dramatically due to EPA issues. Ford has not offered a gasoline ambulance prep pack since 1987. I hope this will become an option again. I have run chevy, dodge and Ford and the ford product has always stood out in long term reliability and repairability.
Thank you Vloney. So far the injectors are working. However, I have another problem which I will post today. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again. ccottle
