Possible Rod Issue!

I took the 04 SCREW FX4 in for an oil change today at a local service shop. After draining and filling it up with synthetic, they fired it up to check for the usual leaks etc. As soon as they did there was a loud knocking noise that lasted for about 5 seconds then quit. I was there to hear it and the guys below said it was coming from by the oil pan. They said it was likely a rod that was going out. Since I was using synthetic they put it in one quart at a time instead using their usual bulk oil machine. They said that by the time they put the seventh quart in that there should have been at least four or so quarts in the oil pan and the rods shouldn't knock like that. I guess I'll be visiting the dealership first thing Tuesday to have them take a look. I had the service manager document the noise it on my service receipt in case they think I'm full of it. I only have 15,000 miles on it. Seems way to early for problems like this. Has anyone heard of this or have any comments or suggestions for me.

Thanks

I've noticed that most engines make alot of noise right after an oil change because it takes about 5 seconds to circulate all the oil into the filter and pressurize the system. During this time your engine is basically running dry.

I change my own oil...and I put as much oil as possible into the filter prior to installing it.

If the noise was a rod, it wouldn't go away that quick, and you would probably hear it under load and everytime you started the engine.

I would certainly suggest not a rod or wrist pin noise but a very common lifter noise. that disappears as soon as they prime back up. definately fill your oil filter as much as possible. this will shorten nois duration

Walllaw, was your truck oil hot when you brought it in? If so, when they drained it out, every lit bit of hot oil cam out with it, with nothing to cling onto any engine parts. Nothing to worry about, My ole 96 used to do that every time I did my oil changes. It had 160k on it when I traded it in........god I miss that truck, but I did need to move up to a supercab.

sounds more like they did the never primed the filter bit, then a bad rod . many motors when started with dry filter esp. the elcheapo brands many fast change shops use will do that. if you have no more noise on a restart cold you know they caused the problem noise . don't freat it unless you hear it all the time when running.
