New camshaft Timing
I just replaced the cam in my '92 F150 300-six. I used a crane 500511. It runs great but still doesn't have much low end power. Compression is 170 psi in the lowest...180 in the highest. I set the timing at 10 deg. BTDC as called for on the label. Should I leave the timing at the Factory setting or advance or retard it a bit. Any suggestions will be greatful.

Isn't there anyone who has an idea of what the initial timing should be set at for a cranes cams 500511 cam for a 300 six?. I have set the ignition timing at 10 BTDC...this is the factory setting with the stock cam. The motor runs well but doesn't have much power....More than with the stock cam though. Any suggestions/experiances would be appreciated.

No....everything else is still stock. I can only do a little at a time due to current finances. The main thing I am looking for is a bit more low end power and better gas mileage. I have had this truck since it was new and it has never gotten any decent gas mileage. If I poke or gag the hell out of it, it still won't get any better than 12 to 13 mpg. It has a E4OD tranny and 3.08 rears. Prior to the cam, the compression checked out at 170 for one cylinder, 175 for another and 180 for the other four. It doesn't burn any oil, runs very well and has 123K miles on it. Just the power and mileage suck.....I have 31x10.50's on it also
