I have an 02 edge 3.0 that did not come with cruise control. The dealer says they do not install cruise controls anymore. There are a couple of aftermarket ones. QUESTION: How do I know if my vehicle has a "VSS" (i think) velocity speed sensor or a cruise speed sensor. I think most vehicles come with one from the factory. The aftermarket cruise control directions state to see if the vehicle has one of these because if not, you have to put a manual one on the drive shaft. I called the dealer and the guy said "duh". Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'll have to check my manual (I prefer Haynes...sounds like a commercial) but I think the VSS is vehicle speed sensor located where the speedometer cable goes into the transfer case (or transmission for 2wd).
However, on your 02 I'm betting you have an electronic speedometer and it won't be the same as mine. Sorry I'm not much help. Getting a manual is good advice.
audiovox cruise controls should have the magnet (s) that go on the driveshaft and the pickup for them. I used this on my 94 as I do not like cutting into wires. Works well and should work with anykind of spedo.
The VSS is in the rear differential. Your truck has it, regardless of whether or not it has cruise control. It tells the computer how fast the truck is going.
On top of the rear differential, at the front, on the driver's side I believe. It's held on with a small six point bolt.
