questions and comments.........

i'm a mechanic and we have a fleet of 1999-2003 7.3s we've been having oil leak in vee problems galor. i have a strange feeling it's because my boss is having us put 15w-40 instead of the recommended weight of oil. how are oil leaks for you guys. also we have a couple that the abs light is on can't exactly figure out why. when we change brake pads we crack the bleeder and don't push the fluid back up i'v eheard this messes with the abs sensor. lol we also keep about 10 cam sensors on hand.

I have a late 99 psd and run 15w40 amsoil. Do not have any oil leaks and have about 128000 miles on it. I have the abs light come on but most of the time this happens in the winter. I have found that snow and grim get between the sensor and hub.I hope this helps some. Good luck.

If you work on a fleet of these bad boys then you will have more data to go than I do but I don't have any leaks and I run the 15w40. I only have about 60K on mine. I know a lot of folks here have had to replace the cps. I believe around 60K. Some are going with the blue cps as a replacement and are seeing a 1-1.5 mpg increase and a smoother idle. I am sure one of the more educated will chime in. Good luck.

yeah for the most part the fleet is doing pretty good though we've got a couple of those big cab chevy 4500s. we've had a big problem with wheel seals leaking on the 450s rear ends going out. also alot of times the rear brake pads wear out on the dirver side of the 450s the inner pads. they see a pretty hard life though they pull back hoes. we have some problems with the ac and the high pressure switch and the little sub harness the runs from that highpressure switch. also if you ever have to pull the motor and trans don't try to do it without removing the turbo lol

I know my truck gets worked relatively lightly. At most it pulls the 8klb TT so I know it doesn't have to stand up to what a lot of guys here are doing with theirs. I bet pulling backhoes around would really work them. Got to love these trucks.

On the ABS light, there is a rear speed sensor on top of the rear differential that is probably your culprit if you have tried the other items you mentioned. When I purchased my truck my ABS light was always on and ! replaced the rear speed sensor (I think it was about $16 from the stealership) and it solved my problem!
