Hey im a new owner of a 69 bronco that is in very good shape. It had me stranded on the FWY last night. Well i got it towed to my house but i am still having problem with it kicking over. It turns but just wont start up. The previous own told me the carburetor will need to be rebuilt, its a holly carburetor. Ive already checked the obvious cause the fuel gauge doesnt work. "Thats another project" So it has fuel and removed the fuel line from carb to make sure the pump is working. My plan is to remove the the carburetor and have it rebuilt. Could anyone think of anything else that might be keeping it from kicking over?
Sure, it could be your ignition too. Does it have points or has it been upgraded to electronic ignition?
You should probably start with the carb rebuild though. I'd get a kit and a holley book from summit and go to it. Then you'll know more if you do have problems in the future.
Looks like a real nice ride!

from my past experiance kick that holley to the crub and pick up and edlebrock holleys are nothing but a pain and if you dont know carbs real well like me i wouldnt even mess with it. it caused my truck to do the same thing though for a lil while.
So is it a 4 barrel or 2 barrel carb... my motorcraft 2 bbl kept messing up. I had another 2100 so i swapped them out and it still didnt run. So i ran all new fuel lines, filters, and even a new sending unit. I finally figured out that there was a leak between the carb and intake.
As Ken mentioned, is it indeed a fuel problem or are you losing spark? Can you see fuel squirt from the accelerator pump circuit when you work the throttle? Have you pulled a plug wire to check for spark? Is it getting too much fuel maybe a stuck float?
What happened when it died on the freeway? Did it lose power right away or did it start to surge or miss and then die?
Hey guys thanks for all your help i was lost for a bit and seeked you guys for help. When my truck died out on the Freeway i was driving about 60 and coming up a little incline, when i tried accelerate to take the climb it started to bog out. It then would continue to run if i got off the accelerator. At that point i was going to slow for all the cars passing me up and i then tried to accelerate to keep up but it wasnt giving me anything so i just pulled off the side of the freeway where it stalled. Well today me and my buddy spent our sunday under the hood. Well to start off i got the carb rebuilt at chuys cabuerator in cypress park. Its a 4 barrel holley carbuerator. Slapped that bad boy on and still it didnt kick over. So then we figured out its the ignition. So we replaced that with a MSD ignition. I never thought i would be so happy to hear my truck roar once again. Well thanks guys for your help. My next mission will be trying to get my fuel gauge to work so i can know how much gas im rolling with.
