I'm sure some people already know this, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyways. Instead of using the usual 3 piece nut, washer with tabs, nut combo there is a 1 piece alternative. Ford part # E8TZ-1A124-A is a ratcheting style locknut that takes the place of all three of them. You just torque it down and go. It locks itself in place, so it wont back off, and you don't have to screw around with those stupid friggin tabs anymore. It takes a 4 prong spindle nut socket and costs about $15 apiece at a Ford dealership.

does that work with the hex-type rear 60 nuts too??
I currently have them on my rear 70 and am picking up 2 today for the front 60 I am putting in my truck this weekend. Right now I know of a few people with them on their front 60's. Since they work on front 60's I would imagine they would work on rear 60's also. Never tried it myself.

if they fit the front, they'll fit the rear. I put original spindle nuts with locking tabs on my rear D60 and got the newer nuts with the locking pin in the front. I did this because i have sockets for both of these types, but not the big hex type. But i might switch to all four of these ratcheting types if they're that easy!
EEEEEW... I HATE those stupid racheting nuts... They will take it upon their own device to back off at the worst of times... Does this mean I can put regular nuts on my Sterling?

I think I want to buy the regular nut for a front 60 to put on my 61. hate those big nylock ones..

To each his own, man. If I can go from the hex nut to the ratcheting ones you should be able to go back the other way. BTW I never heard of those things backing off before. That is one of the reasons I went to them in the first place. I figured since I haven't seen many super dutys on the side of the road with their rear tire, hub, axle assemby walking out of the rear they must work pretty decent. But like I said, to each his own.
You haven't maintained a fleet of 96/97 F350's... They won't back off to the point that the wheel will come off, but, they will back off enough that the seals start to leak, and the outer bearing can spin on the spindle... I've only had it happen on my personal truck twice, but, I don't want it happening again, and I've no problem with dealing with front 60 locknuts.
Thats why stuff like this gets posted here. Feedback. Good and Bad. I personally don't have alot of experience with these things. I was just going off of what I heard from talking to others (friends of mine with them on their trucks, friends who are Ford mechanics). I will be sure to keep an eye on them and check them from time to time though, just to be on the safe side.
I already put them on my front 60 so I'll let you know if my wheel falls off. So far so good. I made the 3/4 mile trip back to my place from my buddys.
