Flathead questions
I am not sure how the system works to know what kind of problem the missing pushrod is. Does the vacume pump only drive the wiper motor? If so, I will be going to electric wipers someday.
Anyone know how the intake vacume, distributor and carberator governor system works and how to adjust them? Is the vacume pump tied into the gonernor system somehow?
Thanks,
John

I have a 1948 that had a 1947 block which was original to the truck. I am not sure if this info will help but let’s give it a shot.
There should be a line that runs to your dist. This one stays no matter want. There might be another line running to a wiper vacuum. In my exp. this is a useless part that needs to be removed and is not needed to run vacuum to! Those wipers do not work with a hill of beans and when you are driving in the rain it is likely to not work anyway. There are electric ones like what you stated before, that will do the job with much better job.
The vac. line going to the Gov. I know what you are saying but this is another part that is no longer useful. I would just take it off. It is as simple as taking off the carb removing the plate and re-installing. Then cap the vac line. The more vacuum you use the harder your truck will run as the dist is being robbed of the needed vacuum. I see no reason for any of the extra vac lines really.
As for the pump, if you are running an electric pump just take the stock one off. Running it without the rod will not or I should say probably didn't affect anything. My question is why use the stock pump on the motor at that point. Get a block off plate and remove the old pump. If you have in-line filters those work better then the bowl which is the only item being used at this point anyway. I would remove it and run direct to a filter then the carb. Remember the less you have going on the less there is to go wrong.

I hope this helps a little. You sound like you are off to a good start.
