The feedback system is better than nothing.

I have been a 100% buyer and used to leave feedback as soon as I rec'd the items. I have left feedback for many of the larger sellers and never received anything in return. Nowadays I do not leave feedback until I receive it. I am waiting on feedback from a seller now on two items although they would be repeat sales. I do not expect anything because I never received anything the first time either although I did give them + feedback at that time.

Personally I consider the seller's transaction is over when I pay him and he ships, the buyer's transaction is over when they receive the item. Reports/feedback are made on the transactions when their part of the transaction is over. Sellers seem to be able to post responses to feedback so there is no reason for them to not post feedback when the item is paid for.

I always check feedback negatives if I can find them. I have noticed the majority of the negatives come from newbie users that have no idea how the ebay system works. For that reason if I ever sold anything I would not sell to anyone with any negatives or less than 10 positives. But then some people took a chance on me when I was a nube...

My numbers:
Feedback Score: 65
Positive Feedback: 100%
Members who left a positive: 65
Members who left a negative: 0
All positive feedback received: 73

Number of transactions: -Almost 100 now

I use nothing but US Postal Service money orders sent thru the mail. Mail fraud laws have some serious teeth.

IMO- Paypal sucks and all of the ebay and paypal promises; "instant payment" and "performance guarantees" are total fraud.

The one thing I hate about selling items on E-Bay is the non paying dead beat auction winners. If you don't plan or have the funds to pay for the item your bidding on you shouldn't be bidding in the first place. I had a guy win a auction for a item I was selling and he would'nt respond to my invoices or e-mails. So I left negitive feedback and all of a sudden he comes out of the wood work and gives me a song and dance story about how he forgot his password to his E-Bay account and how he had no way to get intouch with me. Dude, just be honest with me and say you got in over you head. So the guy leave me negitive feedback because he claims I was not responding to his e-mails. What a dirt bag! I feel the Feedback system is a good thing but you have to read between the lines on how the transaction is handled. Instead of buyer beware, it should be seller beware! What, you think it free to list items for sale on E-bay....Ok I will chill out. Just venting

Personally I consider the seller's transaction is over when I pay him and he ships
say the seller ships and leaves you FB, UPS destroys the package and you give the seller a neg.
The sellers responsibility ends when you have the item intact in your hand

This is the best I have seen on one of the ebay scammers. Pure back. http://amirtofangsazan.blogspot.com/
I have delt with a few people as a buyer and have made out well. I wouldn't leave negitive feed back unless they were like the guy formentioned above. I check sellers ratings before I bid. It's a personal rule of thumb.

I have another question. Three days ago I won the bid on a used slide projector with four slide reels. Before I bid I ask seller if he would not ship the reels to save shipping because I would just dump them anyway and he agreed. I wrote three times for the total shipping costs and got no reply. I always pay within hours of winning so this has me conserned. How long do I have before the item must be paid for? I hate to just remit the full amount and throw the reels away after he agreed to adjust shipping. I have a copy of his letter..... Thanks

When I am the winning bidder I always try to respond within 24 hours and supply my telephone number also for another communication method to avoid problems and misunderstandings.

I had a winning bidder, set-up a pick up date on a pick-up I sold. The day comes, he doesn't show. The emails before that were always cordial, well-written. I even spoke the buyer on the phone. He was well-spoken and quite articulate on the phone. He even asked for directions other than MapQuest to avoid all the tolls.

So I call, the number is disconnected. I email wondering what happened. They emails at first are still cordial, and we set-up a second pick-up date. Then the buyer started sending a series of bizarre, strange, incoherent emails to me. Not threatening, but tin-foil hat kind of stuff.

Finally, they stop sending or answering emails whatsoever. I figure the buyer just didn't have the money. Then I see the buyer left me a positive feedback, saying I stopped answering my phone and refused to speak with them. Now this was a positive feedback. I left a neutral with a explanation.

I have around 150 transactions, with a feedback in the Mid-80's. All positive. I've never had to leave a negative. I don't know if I'm lucky, or just overly cautious. I always make sure I send e-mails when I pay, how I am paying, and I ask what seems like 1/2 million questions.

Thanks for all your input. I'm a real newbee with several purchases but only three "fast pay" feedbacks. You can understand why I was hesitant to give a negitive for the troubled buys I made. If I would of gotten two negitives in retaliation and wanted to sell something, what chance would I have with a record like that?.. I wouldn't get a single bid. I lost a voice recorder today and it's almost as much fun losing as winning when it goes down to the last seconds and it's win- lose. I would of liked to have it but it was a better unit than I need. I'm after a camcorder also and the seller that has a lot of the model I'm looking for has a 96% feedback but he doesn't answer any of the negitives and most of those are for DOAs with no communication from seller. It doesn't sound good to this newbee. I'm in no big hurry. ..... You folks have a good week-end now, ya' hear??

Ebay's feedback system is only of marginal usefulness because they haven't adequately addressed the issue of people leaving retaliatory feedback. Almost 100% of the recent purchases I have made on eBay the sellers haven't left me feedback until I leave them POSITIVE feedback. A neutral or negative these days almost insures no feedback or a negative comment from the seller, even if you paid immediately.

Bottom line, if someone I'm buying or selling to has a feedback rating of greater than 90% or so, I don't really have an issue doing business with them. If someone has a feedback score of 100+ and has 1 or 2 negatives, most of them I have found where they've left a negative for someone else and received one in kind. In that situation I find no reason to distrust someone because of the immaturity of a 3rd party.

If anyone reading this is one of those folks that holds out on giving feedback until they hear from the other party, cut it out! It completely defeats the purpose of the feedback system. If someone pays you on time, then it is your OBLIGATION to leave that person positive feedback, even if they later turn around and leave you a neutral or negative.

In order for me to leave feedback, someone has to leave it for me first....or nada. No matter which way the transaction is running.

I disagree, Feedback is to be left After the tranaction is complete
