Radiator issues

I have a small pin hole leak somewhere in the radiator on my 99 350 with 170K miles....but not much leaks so i just fill it out every so often. Yesterday i filled it up, drove for about 20 miles and was in the engine looking at something else and notice all the coolant was almost gone, but didn't see any major leak. Filled it up again and haven't seen any changes since then.....could this be a thermostat going bad and it opened up to let most of it in? I did check the oil just to make sure it didn't go there. I do have the 203 thermostat on the way, but is there something else i need to check? Thanks

Almost gone from the degas bottle, or the whole system was empty? How much did you have to add to top it off?

If it's not in the oil and you are not blowing billowy clouds of steam, it's probably just a leak.

Almost gone from the reservoir....i needed about a gallon of antifreeze to fill it back out. I am wondering if my thermostat is bad.

Truck would overheat with a bad thermostat.

Maybe rent a pressure tester from teh parts place and see if you can pinpoint the leak....if there is one.

With that much coolant flowing out, it's a good chance you'll be able to see a trail. Have you rolled under and looked up?

I just came across the same problem, almost exact miles. At the top of the upper radiator hose where it meets the engine, it seems to be leaking (Seems b/c all coolant in degas is gone and on floor, and truck is still too hot to refill). Is this where the thermostat is? And / or how hard is it to replace water pump?

Stop leak is your truck's worst enemy!!!
It will clog an otherwise good radiator, heater core, the abrasive particles will eat your waterpump seal. Seen it at work too many times.

The first order of business is to find out just exactly what is leaking. It could be as simple as the o-ring on the bottom radiator hose flange.
