Bad Turbo!

Well it happened. 2004 with 30020 miles on the clock. I had it in the body shop for repair for hail damage about 30 days (and yes it took them that long to repair if you can believe it). Well to make it short. I drove it from the body shop across the street to the repair shop the diesel guy was still there and drove it and determined that the turbo vanes were not opening up.

I think because it sat so long without running the carbon on the vaines frooze them closed.

dealerships call that lot rot. New turbos come with a relief cut in the housing to keep the vanes from sticking. It is a well known problem. Its my opinion that this is the cause of the "turbo fart"-the hickup-overboosting-blowing coolant.

So is there a way to loosen or clean the lot rot without completely removing or replacing the turbo?

the new reflash does that. it makes the pcm cycle the vgt duty cycle back and forth to try and break it loose. Remember all the people complaining about after the reflash"my transmission feels like its trying to relearn the shift points", its the turbo vgt trying to break up the "lot rot". You can also electronically cycle the vgt(but you gotta be a dealer tech)
