Trailer wiring problems
My 7 prong r.v. plug-in was not working so iu took it off and bought a new one,my problem is that the wire colors on these 2 things are diferent, i know what each wire does on the new plug in. but i do not know what each wire ison the orifinal wires, please helpme as i do frequesnt towing. ALso how can i tell if each wire is working?
I assume that it has a trailer brake. I would go under the dash and check which color wires run off the brake. Then I would take a volt meter and check for voltage while someone is pushing the brake. This will give you the brake wire. I would do the same with the signals. This should give you a few of the wires. Also the ground is easy. Just look and see which wire hooks directly to your frame. This should give you a good idea as to which wire is which.
The plug I have is marked with the standard wiring schematic. Looking at it from the back side.
Top White Ground
clock wise Right Black
yellow Left turn & Hazard
red Stop Lamp
Green Right turn & Hazard
Brown Tail & license Lamp
Blue Center Pin (Trailer Brake)
I hope this helps.

I not at home right now, but I have a diagram of every type of trailer plug with colors. I taped it on my solder iron box because I'm always screwing with trailers. When I get back next friday, I will send it on, if I can figure out how.
