I was running fine all day...Stopped at a buddies house and when I left..Truck would not start...It would initially fire for a second and then die..would not stay running for more than a second...Im thinking fuel pump or fuel filter problem...Cant check now...will have to wait till AM. noticed 1 time today when driving a slight hesitation but it went away...it was a split second thing at about 50 MPH..Im pretty sure it has some bearing on the problem...Help..Any suggestions are appreciated
No I dont...Unfortunately Im not that familiar with the diesel engine...Had it 2 yrs and no problems...Until this...Can I buy 1 or is it expensive and not worth trying?
You can look up CPS on ebay, or get one from Ford or International (where they're called CMP). I'd get the black one. Around $60 on Ebay, $100 or so from International.
Check the thread at the top of this section, called Common Mods, for links to info on the CPS such as changing it, etc.
It is worth trying. A faulty camshaft position sensor is the cause of the unexplained "died, won't start" problem the vast majority of the time. You can get one for right around $100 if you have an International dealer close by....nearly double that at the Ford dealer.
You're absolutely right with studder at 50 MPH, and with what you've described so far, I think Cookie and Fraalan are right CPS (Cam Position Sensor)
It's about a 10 - 20 Min (or 2 beer) fix, with a 10mm bolt.

OK Heres the sysmptoms so Far....I went to get truck and it started right up this morning.....Drove about a half mile home...put in driveway and tried to restart it....NO DICE..same thing like yesterday...Does it still sound like the CPS????

Yes. Thats the funny thing about the CPS, it can be working fine one minute, flat out die for the next few days or so and magically work again. Have you replaced the CPS yet, or are you still waiting for them to arrive?
