My pops has an 84 chevy impala (ok, will i be chastized for speaking of the "other" American car?) with a bad alt. We replaced it, bad and went back to autozone three times that day until we got one that worked finally. So some patience is required at times for alts. Good luck.
good question, I got the alt for my 98exp from Kragen and it worked great the first time. maybe it is autozone, but anytime you buy a rebuilt alternator you run the risk of the core not charging properly. i will say this about autozone though, they're pretty good about warranty returns.
Hey all I found the answer to my problem. I brought my car to Advanced Auto for battery and alternator check and the tech found out that it wasn't charging. We already knew this because of the charging light on the dash. Then the guy did a couple of checks and then he went into the fuse box and found a 20amp fuse blown. We did not even know what it was for but when he put in a new one the charging light was gone and the alternator was charging properly. The fuse was labeled number 11 on the fuse box.
