hello i have a 94 f350 7.3idi factory turbo 5 speed 4x4 fuel turned up 1-2 flats ats outlet housing 3 inch dp to a y and dual 2 1/2 into 5 inch stacks 3 inch body lift 35 inch tires it runs strong until the rpms get up past 2300 it kinda falls down especially in the higher gears i suspect a lack of fuel so i chechek my lift pump pressure at the schrader valve it has 0 psi at idle the needle would barely move it doesnt seem to flow very much either im guessing it is dead or dieing so ill replace it this wekend my ? is how i read somewere where it said if the engine is in the wrong posistion it can ruin the pump and drop pump parts in the oil pan wich would not be good thanks

pick up a haynes manual for the 7.3 diesels, it gives info on the pre powerstroke and powerstroke. lot of good stuff in there, and it will walk you through changing it with no problems.
This info pertains to Carter #M60278 pump or new long arm style.
WARNING
This fuel pump must be installed only at the low position of actuator cam.
If the pump is installed at any other position than low cam, the pump will be ruined, the engine will stall and damage may result.
Incorrect installation will loosen the pivot pin and allows the pin and lever to come out of the pump and drop into the oil pan. This can occur immediately or after several hundred miles. This type of failure is not covered by warranty.
To ensure that the cam is at low position, it is necessary to use a mirror and a remote starter switch. Observe the cam through the mounting port and bump the engine around until a one (1) inch wide machine surface is observed. This is low position of the cam. Now complete normal fuel pump installation.
