Anyone ever put one of those small 13" steering wheels and and if so how does it effect the steering? My seat is a custom and extra full with tons of support springs (made for a 300 lbs guy) so this gets me so close to the wheel it rubs my legs and it's not comfortable!
Lonnie, The wheel will work fine, if you have manual steering you will find it a little harder to turn, other than that no problem.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
My smaller grant steering wheel acually helped my steering problem a little. With the big wheel, I had about 1.5" of travel do to a bad spindle. Now with the smaller wheel, it is only about a 1" or less. I don't have to move my hand as much to keep it on the road. I have power steering too and just took a little getting used to.
I personally much prefer the smaller steering wheels instead of the big ones that came from the factory. It seems to make the steering more responsive and tighter. Plus they look way better.
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the original steering wheel. I've got a Grant wheel on my 72 because the original wheel was trashed. I tried to find a replacement at the junk yard, but couldn't find one that wasn't in bad shape so I went with the Grant. To me the small wheel just doesn't feel right. No problems with steering or anything, I just like the looks and feel of the original wheel.
Well I'll be switching my steering wheel next week so if anyone wants a red 69 steering wheel give me a hoot. My home email is

I'm with Backwoodsbum. When I bought my truck it had a cheapy 13" foam covered wheel on it. I got so tired of the hand over hand battle in every turn that I went to the closest wrecker I could find and put in factory original ($15 with large cracks). By the way I do have power steering. Much more relaxing driver now. If you have sloppy steering, I say fix the problem!
Speaking of sloppy steering, My son thinks I need a new gear box, is that much to replace? He said he took-up all the slop he could with the adjustment nut
Well Igot that small steering whell bought and installed. Looks good works great and I like it, problem.... the auto cancell cam for the turn signals won't fit the larger size doo hinkey on the back of the new wheel. The collar on the stock wheel is much smaller, and the clip won't fit this new wheel...anyone have this situation and get an way to fix it? I bought one of the Grant wheels.

Lonnie...
Be really careful when you adjust that nut on the steering gear boxes, especially the manual ones. If not done correctly it will cause severe binding and failure of the gears.
Thanks for the heads-up Mike. I'm going to leave it the way it is for now...I've been driving it to work and with the new smaller wheel it seems ok... haha maybe cause she's old and with no load she rides light but I sure have to be awake at all times ...sure isn't like driving my Cavaran, or my former 85 Toyota...it's like driving a real truck hehe and if I can't fix the signal cancell cam I'll just do it by hand.
