Just installed Lanyot radius rods. Love the ride but I'm getting this load low resonating hum starting at 65mph up to 70 or 80 mph . anyone else had this issue ?
XNrepair, I have some encouraging news to report.
I finally had my driveshaft balanced and u-joints replaced. Two days later, I put the Radius Rods back on. No vibration or resonant "hum" in the 65-75 mph range. Apparently, the original driveshaft was imbalanced (or u-joints were getting "loose/sticky", but not enough to "excite" the drivetrain without radius rods. The rods "stiffen" the rear suspension enough to allow an imbalanced drive shaft to get everything in resonance.
The cost? To replace the original u-joints with Spicer u-joints and then balance the assembly, a local shop charged just over $100. That is all it should cost--as long as you don't drop the darn thing on your face like I did.
IMO it was enough. The rods stiffen the ride and transmit more NHV to the rest of the truck. Before that, the slop in the rubber bushings could take it all up. Shaft vibrates and so does the rear end. Some gets thru but not enough that you notice. You see, you shocks have bushings that are rubber. Now you are tying the rear axel to the frame eseentially and so it passes the NHV to the RR and the RR has hard bushings so it passes it thru to the springs which pass it thru to the frame.
