My dad and I both have a Sirius satelite radio in our trucks. He has an 04 F-150 I have a 97. I put a new cdplayer/radio in mine a couple years ago and when i got the sirius I knew just how the dash and stuff came apart to run my wires. After he heard mine hooked up through the aux plugs on my cd player he wanted his done the same way (vs. the fm modulator)
How does the cd player come out of his 04? It is an xlt extended cab flareside 5.4. It has the cd player/radio.
Also, these radios hook up to the 12 v outlet on the dash. I am no electriction but is there some way I can hard wire this into an ignition controlled fuse so it will turn on when the key is on and off when the key is off? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys.
Does the trim just pop off in his 04 like my 97? Or did ford use a more solid way of doing this?
The guy at circuit city said that the springs on the sides of the 12v plugs are ground and the nipple on the end is the current and they just hook wires to them and hard wire it like that. Is there a less "rigged" way of doing this?
I'm about to try the same thing in my '06 XLT. as far as i know the sides of the cig adapter are the ground and end pin it the hot. I was going to try and find the accessory power under the dash and hook it in there. that way when I turn the truck off and open the door it will shut off. I'm sure this will work but when you turn it on i think you would still have to turn the unit on with the power button. althought i'm not sure. I got the fm module, so I can hard wire the signal and a second cig adapter so i can cut it up. I will go and do this and take some pics. I know they are different trucks but people will get the idea.
The trim around the radio just pops off has 4 or 6 metal push in clips on back side its kinda tricky so be careful try to get a small flat screwdriver in behind it and gently pry up and it will come off. After you remove the trim the radio has 4 7mm headed screws that hold it in. Hope this helps

Your radio in your 04(not sure about97) runs off its own fuse, which is also part of the R.A.P (retained accessory power) module. That is why when you shut the key off without opening any doors, the radio will still play for a short time. Also the center pin on pretty much all cars is 12v+, the shell of it is always ground in our trucks, hence the term, negative ground.

Is there both accessory power and continues power going to the radio. I was messing around back there today and i was told the black and pink was the accessory power. I tried to meter it but I couldn't get anything, I guess I could have not been touching the wire. I also found the black and green I think it was was on all the time, even when I openned the door. I was going to try and find the accessory power but now I think I will just piggy back off the cigerette lighter and soder it inbehind the dash. I will just have to remember to turn off the sat when I get out. I took some pictures as I was taking it apart I will try and post them up.
