auto neutral to drive
My 1986 F150 with the 5.0 engine in it, sometimes it will idle high on a cold start (like 1800rpm) while im holding the gas a little bit. Is it alright to move it into drive at this speed? I always like to hop in the car and go to work right away. The engine has only 85,000 miles on it and as far as i know is the original transmission. It was used every day on the highway and this has been happening for a month or so. I just gave it to my brother for his first car. I hope he doesnt beat it up too much.
I LOVE this truck and I dont want to break it! Is it alright if i move it into drive at 1800 or 2000rpm? If I let off the gas even slightly it will just stall out. My friend that was with me today said i shouldnt do that because its in effect neutral-dropping the tranny. It cant be that bad though can it?
Thats why I cant get rid of it.Anyway I changed the transmission fluid + filter when i bought it last march and its been shifting fine, but in the winter mornings it would "whine" a little bit when putting it into drive and it took about 3 seconds to actually engage. Now with 75 degrees it doesnt do that anymore.
Should i replace the carb and rotor etc or what? I just put new plugs and wires on it your standard stuff and its been running super engine wise once its at normal operating temp. Overheated once when i forgot to add the radiator fluid like a complete idiot but i like to work on cars when drinking.
