I was bidding on a nice grill fresh from the rechrome shop. It was Ebay item 8066140687. It turned out to be too rich for my blood - sold for $620. It was nice, and never installed after the rechrome, but still this seems like an excessive price.
What do you guys think? Am I too cheap, or did this go very high?
I think I like the look of those grilles in gloss black paint. Makes a nice contrast with chrome headlight doors.
But, I bet you can spend that kind of money on a replacement grille for plenty of new cars and trucks, which will be worth squat 10 years from now, unlike investing in a '59 grille.
Does seem like a lot, but price out getting one chromed, might surprise you these days. I took 6 pieces of inside trim from my '36 into the local chrome shop last week, they need no repair at all, and walked out with a $180 bill.
Do they put any chrome on new cars or trucks these days. It would probably add $5K or $10K to the price of a new car if they had the chrome like a 1950's style.
