Quick help... Steering adjustment "binding"

OK, when you're adjusting the steering box (w/the little allen screw on top...) what is the definition of binding? Am I supposed to be looking at binding throughout the range of travel? Or just near the ends? I think I have it really close, just want to make sure it's good before it gets dark...

I believe meshload is adjusted with the steering gear centered.

The proper way of adjusting the pre-load is to remove the steering wheel center cover and use a inch-pound torque wrench on the nut holding the steering wheel on. It's a very minimal inch-pound reading and none of us probably have a wrench that's calibrated that low. This is all done while the front end is off the ground. What I did was to just take the freeplay out of it and tightened the locknut while holding the allen screw still. You could probably "lightly tighten the allen screw", then secure the locknut (the locknut will pull the allen screw away from it's snug position). Then with the front end still off the ground, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop and make sure there's no rough spots.

Got it nailed now... Still have the slightest hint of play, but having my wife turn the wheel while I was watching underneath revealed it's just a tiny bit of play in the steering shaft itself, and has probably been there since the truck was new. Besides replacing it with one of those $$$$$ Borgensen shafts, I guess I'll just have to live with the tiny bit of play (I got it down to about 1/2" of steering wheel rim movement).... Thanks for helping...
