Leaking steering box- any suggestions

I rebuilt the steering box on my F-100 and I have a little leak from where the thrust bolt comes through the plate on the side. I have tried a small oil drain plug washer and this didn't do anything. Does anyone have any other ideas?

mines leeking from the exact same spot on my 53

It completely will drain of 85wt gear oil over the coarse of a year if I don't watch it
I'd like to know how to stop it myself

Is there a bottom plate on the box the remove(it kind of looks like the bottom might be removable)

I just want to know if there are metal shavings in there from being possibly run while the box was dry

I didn't discover the box was dry until after many years of driving

Many years ago I had a leak in a steering box in a 34 Plymouth. A friend suggested I start adding STP to it instead of gear oil. I tried it and it leaked less and less over time as I kept filling it with STP. Eventually it stopped leaking and I never had any more problems with it. I suppose it had something to do with the thickness of the STP. I didn't notice any difference in how the steering gear worked.

Mine is leaking as well. I haven't really looked at where yet. There are other issues currently. The steering is tight and all though.

1954blueoval: If the lucas stuff works for you, please let me know.
