i am about to start my engine build. i have 390 from a 75 f150 with factory 4v carb. i am going to run the c6 behind it, i want to use my 4x4 for mudding hill climing and playing in the sand. i have no interest in playing in the rocks. can any one suggest some ideas as far as cam and manifold ideas for my build. if it helps i plan to run 40 inch tires and 513 gears.
We can offer all kinds of generic ideas, but we need more info on how much $$$ you have available and how serious you want to get. I built a 390 with TRW L2291 slugs, ported stock heads, Ford 4 bl intake, an MSD ignition, and cheap headers that ran real strong. Or look at gtex's engine to see what some real money can build!!!!
I would suggest forged pistons, balanced assembly, either ported iron heads or Edelbrock's, headers, the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and a good ignition of whatever brand you like. Once thebasic engine is ironed out the cam choice can then be made.
i plan to spend about 3000 on parts and do most of the labour by myself. i am going for reliability over power, it is just used for fun and adventure not racing or competition.
RPM intake, Do up some C8AE heads with CJ valves or go Edelbrock, Crane 941 cam, adjustable rockers, forged pistons and qualtiy machine work and ARP bolts should fit under a $3000 budget
