I have a 98 ranger with a little over 100,000 miles and the problem just started last week.Every time i come to a stop or before i cut the engine off my idol jumps up to 300 or 350 rpm can someone tell me whats going on.
We'll need a little more info on your ride, like the engine & tranny combo, service/repair history & are you up to date on your scheduled maintenance now & did this problem begin after a repair or service????
I'm not clear on the rpm thing, is it trying to stall, when you come to a stop & the engine rpm is down to 200-300 & jumping around, or is the idle normal & increasing by 200-300 rpm from normal????
The truck is a 4 cil. and 5 speed trans. I do all the maintance on it and i do it at least 1-2 times a month. The RPM's go from normal idol to 3 - 4000 RPM when at a stop then goes down to normal in about 4-5 sec.And now another problem has started the oil pressure will jump from high to low going down the road.can you tell me what that is.

Reason: need more information
Well with the idle going to 3000 to 4000 rpm when you come to a stop, I'd probably put the IAC high on the suspect list. You may, or may not have luck cleaning it, newer ones don't seem to respond well to cleaning.
On the oil pressure thing, first check the oil level on your dipstick, with the vehicle on level ground. If it's ok & the engine isn't making any ominus noises, I might suspect a faulty oil pressure sending unit.
They are a common failure part on symptoms like yours.
