adjusting toe

2wd 77 f150 w/PS
OK, the Haynes maunual sucks in this instance... no help at all.
My steering toe is about 1" outboard. The steering wheel is cocked to the right a bit. I'm pretty sure this is the source of my 35 mph and 70 mph vibration and wandering. Vertical alignment measures right on the money so I think cambor/castor is right.

If I extend the adjustment on the drag link(?) 1" will this cure it? I read somewhere that you need a slight toe in pointing to 120' ahead. Is this correct?

I think the Toe-in is from -1/32 to +7/32"

This to allow for domed roadways .

I have the specs listed here somewhere

When I replaced the steering components on my Mustang I used a sliding adjustable bar inside bar to set the toe-in.

I figured if the backs of the wheel rims were a 1/4"-3/8" further apart than the front part of the rims..I could drive it to the wheel alignment shop without causing any damage or problems.
Well, Once in the shop and they got my car on the Rack ,they thought there a was camera running on them because the alignment I did By Eye was perfect and they thought they were being tested for their integrity.

With 1/8 inch toe in, 60 inch wheel base, 15 inch rims, the angle subtended will meet at approxiamately 560 feet ahead.

....slight toe in pointing to 120' ahead
for the toe in to point 120' ahead, you will need a 5/8 inch toe in and would be beyond specs.

when i replaced my steering components on my 76 F-150 2wd, my friend showed me how to get it real close....i marked and used certain tread spots on my (new) tires and set the front of the tires an 1/8th of an inch shorter than the back of them, and its almost dead on...before he helped me i had it all messed up and managed to chew the outside edge of my new tires off because the tires where pointed too far in....anyway, yeah 1/8 of an inch toe-in will get you close enough if you cant get an alignment right away....its best if you can measure to the rotors by clamping 2 straight edges on front and back of both rotors pointing down, it makes it easier to get an accurate measurement with a tape measure....
