I have a 68 f100 360. i got the pertronix setup and it ran GREAT. then, somehow the timeing got messed up. I put it to 10'. It started fine but it will idle and drive very rough. It's backfireing ever time i accelerate. I bought new autolite platinum's and set them to .044... it still did it, then i put it to .036 and it still does it... it drives the same regardless the gap. It has 8mm wires. i have tried the timing on 6 8 10 12 and 14, its not helping it at all!!! Please help me...
Well...at least you didn't do what I did....wired mine backwards...clockwise instead of counterclockwise...
with open headers at that (hadn't put on the exhaust yet) flames out the carb and exhaust....
it was COOL....

Geeeeez ! DON'T tell Chris that.
He's been trying to get flames out his exhaust "On Purpose".
Now he knows another way to do it.

No, thankfully it didn't hurt the engine....now my pride, that's another story...
Spent 2 hours trying to track down what was wrong..made endless adjustments to the distributor...pulled it and put it back in...played with the carb...etc, etc,
Worse thing is I did the same thing not 4 years ago on a 85 Blazer...guess I thought I wouldn't make the same stupid mistake again...
