Should i steer clear of a lemon law buyback?

Hey guys i am from the 7.3 IDI forum, i have an 89 i was looking for a 7.3PSD and stumbled across about 30 lemon law buybacks from ford, these are at my local dealership and they all have less then 20K miles on them. Im looking at a 2004 crewcab FX4 with 13,000 miles lariat for 29,900 what do you guys think, too good to be true?

Do these trucks now have a "salvaged" title, and can i get financed, i just turned 20, i will have my dad as a cosigner, he has great credit. How hard will it be for me to finance this, and how hard will it be to insure it?

This is in California. Firebaugh West Side Ford. I have a pal that bought one in early 2003 he now has 200K on it, well 198K but it had 5K on it when he got it lemon law buyback, not one single problem.

read the Calif. Lemon Law and think about what these prior owners and the vehicles had to go thru to get to the Yellow Failure Lot
for not much more, one can buy a truck with a real warranty and no failures

The last thing you should do is buy some one's problems, and finance it! What if you have problems? Ford already has dealt with a owner and had to buy back that owners problems. These units are probably sold "AS IS". You pays your money and takes your chances. If your dad has good credit, buy a new unit that will have a warranty, you will never regret it. Good Luck Michael

needless to say, research it very carefully, it may be a buyback for constant clunking in the floorboards, or several motors going bad. People get them bought back for all different reasons. You may be able to live with whatever problem the vehicle had. But like the others say, unless there is a monster price difference, buy a new one

I bought a buyback 2003 King Ranch with 11000 mmiles on it. It's fully loaded. 6.0 psd. I have 44000 miles on it. It has been reflashed with newest recall, had a injector control solenoid replaced.....thats it. My truck has been great. My advice............check out the dealer who is selling it. If your dealer is all about the money and not customer service.....STEER CLEAR. If they are good at customer service , you got it made. I got a heck of a deal on my Buyback. Good luck!

Yeah well thanks guys, the reason is i think with enough dealing i can get this truck for the low 20's. This is a dealer who my family is good friends with, this particular truck had a thud and noise at 45mph, it was fixed i drove it and it runs absolutely great. Thanks for all the help, i just dont want to pay 45K on a pickup while i am still in college, and i need a bigger truck to pull my college dorm, a 27 foot fifthwheel with popout.

I would normally shy away from a buyback. However, in your case, it sounds like you have a good relationship with the dealer and can trust what they are telling you.

Hey ATS.... have your dealer run an OASIS report on the truck and give it to you, it will give you any info on service visits/complaints/repairs performed, etc. This can be very valuable information to help you make a decision.

I have seen buybacks for all types of reasons. 05 f250 crew cab king ranch with a powerstroker was bought back because the customer thought the seat heater got to hot!!! I have also seen a buyback on an 04 f250 powerstroker because the transmission failed 5 times. Because of the whole 6.0 engine trouble, Ford will buyback a truck for basically any reason. Personally I can live with hot seats, I can't with the trany droppin. Most of the time Ford fixes the problem before they resale the BB.Check the reason why it was bought back and If the problem was fixed. Good luck buddy.
