I've got an 85 f-150 with A 302 out of a 68 gt350 and do not want to run points, I am hoping to find a dist. that will fit the motor and work with the existing ingnition system, the new style truck dist has too short of a body and the old style doesn't fit in the manifold, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know
pertronix ignitor....works great if using the original points dist. and matching manifold/carb. Using the fuel injected manifold...while sad as it sounds on a GT350, would probably require the newer dist. or a hybrid of the two.
this is an ORIGINAL GT350 ENGINE and I will not(even though I am quite capable) be willing to run points or change manifolds, the carb is a non issue(750 holley). This truck sees alot of hard use in the mud and if it is absolutely necesary I will buy an MSD, now the dist. I am looking for will have the body of an early ecc1/2/3/4 and the shorter shaft of a newer style dist

buy a davis-unified-ignition then, they can custom torque curve your dist. for your needs. pertronix is an electronic conversion to a points dist. FWIW, automakers changed to bigger diameter dist. cap to lessen the chance of crossfiring, but I'm not sure if the older manifolds had enough clearance for one.
dude save yourself a headache and buy an accel or msd im sure there's an application for your needs. go to there websites and look for your distributor and ignition system.theres gotta be somethin for you out there and also look into custom building one i know accel will build you one but it wont be cheap you can bet on that!...good luck i hope you find one.....clay
well I thought about finding an old style dist and modifying it for my needs(I get into building alot of custom parts for friends in my 4x4 club) but I would rather find the right one rather than piecing one together(don't have the money for an msd right now) one of my buddies has 10-15 ford dist on the shelf and I will go search his staff, ALSO what do you think a full posi D44 dif is worth
man if that is an original gt350 motor it should be pulled out. that motor should be in a stang not a bronco getting rodded dude. i will say its cool to have a motor like that but sad its not in the rightful home. what if that motor blows on ya, it will then loose all of its value and then some.
yes maybe it should be in it's rightful home, but this is no rotted truck, it has an awesomely solid body, 4" of lift(soon to be 12 and a solid axle) and 35" tires(soon to be 42's) so it really isn't that much of a crime..........and if I had a stang that's where the motor would be, and it won't blow on me(it's not a chev)
hey dude if that truely is a gt350 than rite on for you for puttin it in an bronco!i think thats a cool swap! and if it blows (provided it dosent crack and it probably wont) then just strip her down and give it a nice caustic bath and rebuild it and rod it !!!! keep in your bronco or stick it in a torino or a stang!that engine has antique value! ..good luck with your distributor search................im buildin a 400m with 270 duration comp cam,.040.pistons,and high vol oil pump, performer manifold ,ported and polished heads,190LB valve springs, and 750 holley d.p. with vac secondaries ,stock ford distributor......ive got a q/a for you guys holley or demon carb for moderate 4x4 and hill climbing? wich do yall prefer?......clay
