Since my 429 block bit the dust, I have started my build. This is for towing so a torque monster is what I am after. I have a DIVE block and DOVE A heads and D3VE A2A heads as well. Going back with a 460 and want to use the DOVE heads for the added compression. i do not mind running premium.
Question is,, how do I lower compressision slightly and still keep the quench height for detonation control? Is was not a problem with the 429 but add a few more cc's with teh 460 and it could make a difference.
Next, I am looking at a place that does ceramic coatings for heat control and they are going to do my pistons and valve faces and head chambers. this will help me run the slightly higher compression and help detonation control .
Any one got any coating places they reccommend?
I know, I could run lower compression and not worry about it but then again we could all run stock motors and never ask for more either! Guess I am doing it because I want to!
Can't give you thoughts on ceramic coatings and places to get it done as I have never spend the time to do it, but on compression you have several options. Be honest here you want to run the DOVE heads, well because they are DOVE heads. Getting the compression up is easy to do, If you run the DOVE heads unmilled with a 22cc dish piston and the pistons .010 down from the deck on a 460 you end up with 9.67:1 or you could run the D3 heads .010 into the hole, mill .010 off the heads to get a good surface and a flat top piston with 8cc valve reliefs your at 9.51:1, and if you bring the pistons to zero deck in that situation your at 9.71:1. So just how much compression do you really want?
You nailed me... Yea I want to run the dove heads! Anyway, they are ready to go and the D3's would have to be rebuilt. Their is just so many damn options available!! I just got a call from a buddy who found me another dove block and good 429 crank. A local machine shop has them after a customer stiffed them. Good price so I will add them to my collection. My only problem is my collection!! I can not turn down Ford stuff...
