Just had upper and lower ball joints replaced on my 99 F20 super duty 4x4, diesel. Ford wanted $1200 to do the job, got a very reputable local garage to do it, parts and labor $500.
To my question, they put in Moog serviceable ball joints. Are these a good brand? How often should I grease them? What type of grease? Is Mobil 1 synthetic okay to use? How hard is it to grease the ball joints? I have never had to do this on a truck before.
Synthetics are perfectly fine to use, Amsoil is a very good synthetic also. And yes Moog is basically the top of the line suspension parts. I settle for nothin less than Moog chassis parts anyways.
To be one the safe side, id check ball joints & tie rod ends etc etc. every 5 or 6 months to prevent any unwanted repairs in the future. Greasing a ball joint or tie rod end is just like filling a tire with air, except you arn't using air.
