If anyone is interested, a guy I work with just inherited his grandpa's trucks. The old gent lived in Las Vegas NM, on the plains there which is real dry. The two trucks are a 49 Chev or GMC stakebed 1-ton, that hasn't a lick of rust but is sunburned (not many takers here, I suspect), and a 59 or 60 F-150 that has one spot of rust in the lower driver's door post. Other than that, it is clean as a whistle (rust-wise), some sunburn, but the rest of the body and chassis are unlike anything you nawthern boys have seen in 30 yrs! Hose the dust off and paint it. It only has 80k miles on it, too. Y-block V8, manual tranny (3-sp on the column as I recall). The new owner has 40+ cars already and has the county on his case (wonder why?) so he is open to selling it. I can get pictures if you like. He is reasonable on his expectations, I'm sure. This is a complete, fully functional truck used right up to the old man's last days. The old man used to drive it to Cheyenne (almost 600 miles each way) twice a year, no problems.

Is he getting rid of everything or just these two trucks? Is he reasonable or does he think he is sitting on a gold mine?

I might be interested in taking a drive up that way and checking out what all he has

The guy I work with (with 40+ cars) lives in Belen. He might be interested in selling some of them, but they are almost all GM musclecars -- currently working on a Judge, has 2 Grand Nationals as drivers, a couple GTO's, a dozen Buick GS's, etc. The trucks are still in Las Vegas. I suspect he'd sell the 59 for about $2500 and it would be a steal at that IMHO. The GMC is a dually truck and an easy restore but he is thinking of keeping it for hauling his other treasures... gimme a call if you're interested!

Ross,

Rigth now its too rich for my blood but I always keep my eyes out for deals. I've been gathering parts to try and throw together a roadster of some sort, so I'm looking for old bodies that I can dig up out of a ditch somewhere

I'll spread the word around to some of my buddies though

I am surprised that I have not heard of this goldmine as I thought I had bought most of the old stuff in and near Vegas and Belen. I travel on a regular basis and have found great treasures in Vegas,Wagon Mound,Springer,Tecolote,Roy,Rowe,Pecos,Anton Chico,Gallinas Canyon,Romero, and even Rio when we called it Alameda. I've mostly rescued Chevs, Poncho's, an Olds, and 2 Fords. It is all good metal in the neck of woods. Plus one can see the most beautiful ( enchanted ) country on earth along the way when car hunting .

Bruce,

I was at the show also and met up with Ross for a few minutes. The show has definatley grown.

I definatley think that we should all meet up one of these days. I had a ball with my truck this weekend. I went to a local cruise night on Saturday night and met up with some old friends. Spent the night laughing and carrying on. Sunday, I drove my truck down to the museum show and my son and i spent the afternoon riding around town.

The old truck is a blast to drive!!! I can't hardly start it up without having my boy run out and climb into the pasenger's seat. Anytime I have to run and errand he asks me if we are going to be taking the "old" truck.
