What all will I need to run a 460 in my 70 F100, I am doing a frame off and everything is apart right now, It currently has a 360, will I have to swap the frame mounts? what else will need to be changed, I already have a 460 trans.
I'm in the same boat. I have a 74 F-100 2WD with the 460. I have a 67 F-100 2WD without motor. The 74 is extremely rusty so I thought why not. I'm hoping the mounts work and from there I can tell you more.
buckshot, you will probably need frame mounts, drive shaft, from the 74 and might need to space the radiator closer to the motor and rig something for a shifter BUT you will still have a problem with a speedo cable from the 67 going into the tranny from 74, I'm still working on that problem myself
They make different gears that went on the end of the speedometer cable to go into the transmission. They should be able to take your trans, gear ratio and tire size and give you an appropriate gear that will make your speedometer read right, if that's what you're after.
I had a '70 F350 that came with a 390. I swapped in a 460 with little trouble. I had to change the frame mounts. No problem. I ordered them from the dealer and the holes were already in the frame. I also needed to add the motor mounts from the block to the frame mounts. The drive shaft needed to be shortened. The auto trans shifter rod from the coloum to the trans had to be lengthend about 1 1/2 inches. As I recall, my throttle linkage was tricky but that could have been just my set up. I also ordered the kick down linkage from the dealer. The trans (C6) mounted right to the crossmember. Altough my 390 radiator was about 2 years old, Ifound it nessessary to go to a 4 row and then ordered a new fan shroud from the dealer. After a few tweeks and adjustments, it worked great and flat flew!
It can be drivable in a weekend but you'll spend sometime after that fiddling with it to get it just right.
After this weekend, the 460 and c-6 are in my garage. The 67 is minus the front clip and ready for the 460. I am painting the front of the frame and will paint the rest of the undercarriage later. The 74 truck frame mounts bolted up perfectly and someone had already converted the truck to disc brakes. This is about the easiest swap I have ever made.
