My 1970 f-100 refuses to stop back firring when I decelerate. I hade a 360 until the #5 exhust vale melted on me so replaced the heads with a set off of a 390 i have sittin around waiting to be rebuilt. Along with that I changed the distributor, coil, plugs, wires,fuel pump, timing chain, rebuilt the stock 2-brrl carb. Now I can seem to find a point in the timing spectrum where I dont blow black smoke when the hammers down, and back fires when slowing down.
Once you locate the mixture screw you have to play with it a little. The trick is to adjust it to the point where the engine idles the fastest and then adjust the idle down with the IDLE screw.
