Im new to this forum and i just purchased a 1954 ford f100. It has a 302 and c4 from a 1969 ford fairlane. now to my question... i bought a new wiring panel kit from ron francis wiring and installed it last week. The only problem i have is the starter will not disengaging when the motor starts. I currently have the push botton start switch hooked up to the AM post of the ignition switch. Do i need to hook it up to the COIL side or what?? Please help!! I cant drive my truck and it is killing me!!! Thanks.
Need a little more info John. Is the starter cranking the whole time the key is on?
Or is the bendix hanging up on the ring gear and not retracting? 302's have a variety of starter nose lengths and sometimes cause problems even tho your local parts jockey will tell you they're all the same.
Im not sure how i can tell if the bendex is hanging up. The starter continues to crank even though the motor turns over and runs. i hope this helps a little more. Thanks for the reply!
I wonder if the GM switch that Ron Francis sends with the wiring kit is the problem (does not like the starter button, may have to use the original Ford switch or just have the button for looks only). You may want to give them a call.
