302 overheats

Now that the weather is turning warm, and I don't have my heater on, I've noticed that if I drive my '72 302 at 60 to 65 mph for any length of time (>30min) the temperature gauge starts to creep up over the mid point of the gauge. If I put the heater on and the fan on full blast the temp. will come back down.

I'm thinking that the radiator might be scaled up because the few cores that I can see when I look in with the rad cap off look a little scaled. Is there any product that anyone out there has used that will disolve the scale but not harm the rad. or engine? Any other ideas?

yes there is. Do this:
go down to your drug store or lumber yard and get about 4 gallons of Muratic Acid. I't about 3 dollars a gallon. Take off both radiator hoses, to keep it out of the engine. Fix a hose to the bottom of radiator leading into a bucket and flush this stuff thru the radiator. Put a hose on the top outlet to keep it from squirting out all over your engine.
Cycle it thru a time or two.

Remember, this stuff is ACID and wear protective clothing, and also be aware that it's strong and will burn your lungs if you breath the vapors.
I guarantee it will clean your radiator. I used to repair radiators, and this was wonderful acid for cleaning them up for repairs, or flushing them out.
