AOD question

I have a new motor ( Y block ) with an AOD tranny bolted to it via adapter. My question is can I start the motor without the throttle valve ( TV ) installed or will this immediatley burn up the transmission. I need to order a tv cable for a holley carb set up, but in the mean time I would like to get the motor timed etc...

The problems of running without a TV cable come from running it and it not shifting down after it shifts up. If the truck isn't moving, not an issue.

It will be an issue if you put it in gear. You may burn up a clutch because there may not be enough pressure to hold it. If you must run it, do it only in park or nuetral.

The TV cable isn't just for downshifts, it controls line pressure, too.
