Well I finally got to work my '97 PSD, I was towing the 18' stock trailer with a small load to Prescott. This includes Sun Set point which is 6.5 to 7.0 % grade for about 8 miles, I couldn’t even hold 60mph. With my ’90 7.3 with BANKS sidewinder 3 " exhaust K&N filter and trans comand I can carry the same load at 70 MPH.
So where to start on the PSD to get better power, also my mileage is terrible with the trailer way worse than the ’90 is.
shim that fuel regulator and get that fuel pressure up. Definetly makes a diffrence. Dump that dp, cat, and muff. Straight pipe that biotch and you'll see better numbers with that alone. 1997F-350 has it down, DIY intake with a napa filter and you'll be set. Even a tuner would be a good investment. I recommend Superchips. Definetly le3t us know what kinda trans ya got. good luck
5 speed trans
axle ratio ?
tag says S 132 P
L 10 10 27 G15
tires are 285/75R16
defiantly want to do the exhaust mods still looking for the best (send your suggestions)
as for gauges I would like to have EGT, boost psi, eng temp, amp and Vacuum just looking for the right stack to go up the door post.
Just went out to the truck and got the load receipt, went across the scales at 11150lbs used the entire front tank in 150 miles "stock tank short bed" went from 7000' elevation down to 1000' 70mph the whole way tack at 2450rpm. just wishing I got better mileage.
My 97 f250 gets 18.2 mpg in the city, and has auto with napa filter, 3 inch to 4 inch exhaust, ts chip, not bad for a 3/4 ton truck. f350's will get slightly less mpg's. jcab

it looks like from your notes you got a 4.10 rear. as do i.
unloaded i get 14-16 mpg. i also have a 5 speed.
have not towed a load a long distance yet to know what i would get. i also run those kinda rpms all the time on the highway.
just need to do a few things and it will improve. just be patient.
I haul a '42 Sundowner 6 horse slant gooseneck with my F250. Weight on the scales will usually run me about 18,500. I run it across states transportin horses. I usually can get 11-13mpg with it loaded doin 65. anything above that and im hittin about 7-9mpg. I have a automatic and run 4.10's. Like F350 said, be patient and it'll happen. I have 3'' dp, 5'' exhaust, intake, 80hp superchip, gauges, modified fuel bowl and regulator, etc. injects are on the way, as well as a new 6 position chip. we'll see if they help out as much as i have heard they do. With a few upgrades that truck will get great mileage and pull with the best of them
I get 18mpg unloaded, but when I drop the trailer on (04 CM Norstar 3 horse w/living qtrs) and load it up it drops down to about 10mpg. But I'm also over 18,000 cgvw.
I haul a 34' fiver approx 11,500 lbs with my 96. I get 10mpg while towing it.
If you don't mind the $$ think about an aux overdrive unit. You don't need that 4.10 rearend empty and it would give you 20% overdrive in all gears if you want.
