ok, last night i was taking my girlfriend out to dinner. we got about half way there and it acted like it was running out of gas so i switched tanks (both tanks were filled at the same time with the same stuff). but even after i switched tanks it still ran horible and wants to die when i come to a stop. i have checked nearly everything. it had pertronics ignitor II and a flame thrower coil on it, so i put back the condinser and points and the old coil and it helped a little but it still runs bad. replaced all fuel filters, checked the vacume lines. i don't know what went wrong. the plugs were clean compression is high. im running out of ideas. please help, this truck is what is going to be moving me to PA in june and it needs to run its best.
The "economizer" valve as my father calls it like to go out on the holley/autolite/motorcraft carbs. It's basically the idle circuit, it sounds like you make have sucked a piece of crap into the carb. Also check your wires and plugs. Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
i found the problem! my grandfather told me to take the truck out to a long road and floor it(rev it really hard), so i did. and it worked. apparently something had cloged one of the jets, being a new carb i did not think that that would happen. i runs great now. thanks for all the help.
I would check your coil, You say you are running the Pertronixs Ignitor II ignition and you say you are running the flame thrower coil. You are running the wrong ohm coil for the PI II Ign.You should be running the Flame thrower II coil that matches the ignition
Pertronixs Ignitor II Ign with The pertronics Flame thrower II coil
PI with the flame thrower coil
Charles
the coil is a flame thower II i even bought the speical pertronixs spark plug wires. i did replace the fuel filter just after the fuel swtich and there were tiny rocks in it, don't know they got in there. my dad asked if someone got pissed at me and poured sand in the gas tank, but the only problem with that idea is i have locking gas caps. any way, i took off the filter under the feul pump and there wasn't any thing in the bowl to indicate that the first one wasn't working.

northey87, Good to hear, I did put the wrong coil (a Flame thrower II) on a Pertronixs ignitor and learned the hard way. I didnt want you to hunt forever like I did to find the problem. Glad you got it figured out ok Charles
