Mustang question

When was the 427 first available in a mustang? I'm trying to settle an argument with a friend who says they put em in the 1964 model, I dont believe him.

According to the MustangSource, 427 never existed in a Mustang. Only 428 and 429.

But none of them existed on 1964-1966 Mustang. Biggest engine in a Mustang from 1964 until 1966 was 289.

I remember reading in 1967 about the 427 for '68. It was a 390 hp hydraulic lifter version, and as indicated, not many were made.

427s were installed in early Mustangs for drag racing, notably as "A/FX" for "A" "factory experimental" units, but again, there weren't a lot of them, and these cars had serious surgery and were purpose built for the 1/4 mile, and were not street cars nor sold that way.

Noope, the 427 was never a mustang option, not even in a shelby mustang, but you could get a detuned 427 in the 68 couger.

I know, back in the day you would see so many mustangs with swapped in 427's, it got easy to think they came in them. There really wasn't many cars that you could get a 427 in, a shelby ac cobra, a few special fairlanes like a thunderbolt, maybe some galaxey's, I can't think of anymore, but I'm sure there are more, "O", the 68 couger.

it was an option for a short time in '68, engine code "W", here is another site that confirms it:
http://www.muscularmustangs.com/database/1968.php

and another:http://www.mustangspecs.com/years/68.shtml

and still another:http://www.fordcobraengines.com/Mustang%20Engines.htm

see, what i have read and experienced, there has been always the rumored "w" code mustang, but there is no pic of one anywhere.

also looking online here and there today (ok, nothing else to do) i came across there were supposly 8 mustang stallion editions built in 1967, but it been just rumored the 427 was optioned in 1968.

but that saying, another site compared it to there were many options on mustangs over the years that are not shown on fords option sheet, also there are numerous special edition mustangs that were made.

i tried looking up for a pic of a 427 mustang, couldn't find one (at least one with it being original)

but that being said, i wouldn't bet for it or against it.

now i want a 1969 mustang, saw a mint one today......mach 1!

My guess is the '68 strike at Ford goofed up the numbers of cars planned, and the 390 horse 427 just never made production. You never see one in the mags, and them boys is always coming up with the rare ones.

I didn't see a 390 2v in the list, but I've been told they made 'em.... z code motor maybe. ????

I have been in the ford performance seen all my life, and I have yet to hear of, or see a 427 factory production mustang. Tasca ford sold 66 fastbacks with a 427 cammer motor, but the cammer could only be bought as a create engine, Tasca would install them in the cars, and then sell them, I believe it was 66 fastbacks if memory serves me right.

Yeah, they were great weren't they? the 427 cammer was the king of 427's, but only could be bought as a create motor. The only thing close to it in a production mustang was the boss 429 hemie mustang, but there were very few of those made.
