i have a question bout a 79 f150 4x4
right now i have a c4 auto tranny and i would like to swap for a 3 speed granny, my question is wil they bolt up to the same tranny mount??? do the trannys have to be the same year?? im already getting the tcase with the 3 speed so thats not an isuue, and im goin to fab up a cluth pedal, i just want to mak sure that i wont have problems mounting the tranny, if there are any other complications i didnt mention please let me know, any help or tips would be great
well the 3 speed is column shifted and you will need all the linkages for it fabbing up your own is way to hard. also the 3 speed is not a granny transmission. i would just swap in a NP 435 and be done with it.
is this a 3 on the tree? if so, to make things simpler get a floor shift kit. Secondly, the 79 4x4 should have a C6 from the factory, not a C4. Third, the crossmember can stay, you might have to wallow the 4 bolt holes though. Fourth, any manual tranny truck will provide the pedal set-up.
You may also need to get your driveshafts redone. I swapped out the C-6,NP 205 in my 79 F-250 for a NP 435,NP 205 and then my back shaft was a little short and my front shaft was a little long. The back shaft was still usable but had an inch or so of spline showing from the slip yoke. I used that as my excuse to get new 1 ton shafts made.
