Update to old Topic

Original Post

"99 expy won't go forward"
"My wifes '99 expy won't drive forward. It will go in reverse fine, but not forward. It's rolls in neutral forwards and back. I just replaced Pads and Rotors on all four corners about a month before. She said the back tire(s) kind of skipped when she was backing up and then just locked up and wouldn't go forward. I haven't taken anything apart as I just had surgery and can't lift or strain so I asking blindly, so to speak. Anybody have any idea?? The parking brake seems to be releasing but I can't say for sure. I've read about the ABS sensor on other postings, but I'm not sure about that. Thanks for any help".

UPDATE
Well I drove our expy home in reverse yesterday without any problems. The car rolls in neutral fine. No problem. It goes into drive and goes without a problem. The problem only happens when I apply the brakes. And only going forward in neutral or drive. Never reverse. When I apply the brakes I get a bam, bam, bam from the rearend and the wheels lock. It's kinda like if you put your car in park when it is still rolling a little. You get that rocking motion. I took the wheels and pads off(does it matter which way the pads go on, meaning the guidees on the end are different. I've tried both ways, same result.) and everything looks good. Some thought it might be the tranny. I don't as it works fine until the brakes are engaged. And I'm pretty sure it's not Big Craig's mother in law. Although I would welcome the extra help.
Thanks for any and all replies.
Matt

remove rear rotors and there is a set of shoes in there for your emergency brake. Those have been known to come apart.

I agree, you need to disassemble those brakes.

Thanks for the replies. I had looked at the parking brake and it looked fine also. I was about to give up until I noticed some scratches on the inner rim of my front right wheel. I drove my car onto some gravel and when the brakes locked up I applied a little gas and I was dragging that front wheel. I took it apart and it was missing the lower bolt that holds the bracket that holds the caliper/Pads. Got a new bolt and no more problem. When around the rest of the wheels to double check everything and I give my car a clean bill of health. I have a directional hearing problem so the next time I'm trying to hear a noise on my car, I think I'll get my wife involved. My twin 6 yr olds have good intentions, but they assured me the noise was in the back...Thanks for the help everyone. Now onto that rear wiper....
