Got hung up at a job site yesterday and after punching my way out I've got a high pitched whine at all speeds. Front wheels were down in a rut between a couple of steel plates and when I rocked it to get some momentum and popped out of the rut the rears dropped in for a moment and I had to do the same.
When I started it up at the end of the day I heard a steady whine from the trans area.
I realize that your probably checked the PS pump, but just check it to make sure. I had low fluid in mine today and heard an awful whine on the way to church that I never heard before. After I went straight from church to work, I got home and put some more PS fluid in, and voila! my whine is gone. GL with it. I sincerely hope you didn't fubar the tranny.
I tried to reply to this this morning but it didn't work.
The PS pumps on the Fords are noisy to begin with, and low/empty on fluid they are much much worse. Would be worse if you limited and held the tires there during the procedure to get out, or if you jammed the steering hard against the pump.
