start up noise

Ive got a 96 f150 with the 300 cube motor. Few days ago it started making a single muffled pop on start up right when the motor catches. It sounded like an intake backfire but not real loud. It only has 60k miles on it (not abused) The plugs cap and rotor were replcaced around the end of last year. Any ideas?

Does it sound like it may be a starter noise? You said just when the starter engages. Are there any loose hoses or rusted egr lines that could be causing it?

check to see if your plug wires didn't come loose. Possible one wasn't pushed on hard enough, and vibrated loose. Just a simple check to eliminate that possibility.

Its not the starter. Its f I so it cranks for a second or two before it catches, and right when it catches almost like the first cylinder fire is when it makes the noise if that makes any sense. The engine is spotless. My father owned this truck which he never went over 2k miles on oil changes, the lowest one 1100 miles! lol I was also thinking it might be a bad or loose wire. I think I'll go through it and replace everything ( cap rotor wires and plugs ) Thanks for the advice.
