429 crank problems
Where and who sales good cranks? Summmit has an Eagle for 250 bucks. I will probably pull the motor and swap out crank, rod, and main bearings. Any advice?? Also , in their websight , the eagle can be had with both a 429 stroke and a 460, but it lists different rod bearing journal sizes. Are the rod journals different on the 429 and 460?
I could take it to my machine shop and see if the scoring on the rear of the crank can be turned out, but they have a big backlog so I am looking at just replacing it.
A new oil pump for addded insurance as well. Anything I should be aware of on these issues with the crank etc?
Never tackled a 385 series engine before.
If I buy a new crank ,should I have it polished or anything like that? I know to mic it in several place around each journal and all the usuall. Just never bought a new crank and do not know what prep it needs.
Wonder what killed the old one?? blocked oil passage? Need to check and see if the top bearing was turned around and blocking the oil passage??
Sorry for such a long post..
